This museum has the best and most important art collection of Latin America, gathering work of national and international artists from the XIII century until the XX century. The permanent exposition includes the work from artists like Rafael Sanzio, Renoir, Sandro Boticceli, Picasso and Degas, among others.
It was founded in 1947 by the Assis Chateaubriand and Pietro Maria Bardi. The building project was made by Lina Bo Bardi and became one of city´s symbol. It is all made of glass and concrete, standing on four supporting pillars. Underneath it there is the biggest free space of South America. This place is used for an antique fair that happens on Sundays and as the start point of popular manifestations.
